Submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step in applying for federal, state, and most institutional aid. The FAFSA contains questions about your financial information, educational background, and your educational plans for the UNH College of Professional Studies. Using this information, it will calculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), according to a formula established by law.

Start your FAFSA

When filling out your FAFSA, ensure that your information is available for processing by updating your school code section to include UNH:

  • University of New Hampshire Federal School Code: 002589

Without our school code on your FAFSA, the Financial Aid Team will not receive your FAFSA from the Department of Education.

FAFSA Reapplication Process

Students are required to reapply for student financial aid on an annual basis. The student aid period is July 1st to June 30th of each year which coincides with our 8-Week Summer Term and 16-Week Fall and Spring Semesters. Please visit Tuition and Aid for step-by-step instructions.

Important FAFSA Notes

Here are a few additional FAFSA notes that could be helpful during your financial process:

Verification

A financial aid application may be chosen for verification by the U.S. Department of Education or by the UNH College of Professional Studies. The purpose of verification is to maintain the integrity of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs by verifying the information provided by students and parents on their FAFSA. If you are selected for verification, you are required to submit additional documentation.

Please note: We recommend that you choose the option to import your tax information from the IRS when you complete your FAFSA. Choosing this option will make the verification process easier. Visit Eligibility Requirements to learn more.

Conflicting Information

Your FAFSA application may also contain conflicting information that requires resolution. You are required to submit the appropriate documentation and/or additional information requested in order to resolve your FAFSA. Visit Eligibility Requirements to learn more.

Special Circumstances

We recognize that a student’s and/or family’s true circumstances may not be accurately portrayed in their FAFSA. Approved special circumstances allow the Office of Financial Aid to adjust a FAFSA accordingly which may increase financial aid eligibility.
