Basic Academic Skills Assessment (BASA) and Licensure Exam Requirements
In compliance with NHED Professional Educator Preservice Program and licensure requirements, the UNH College of Professional Studies teacher licensure programs require passing scores on Basic Academic Skills Assessments (BASA) in Mathematics, Reading and Writing. BASA exams can be taken through the National Evaluation Series (NES) or Educational Testing Services (ETS).
Overview & Testing Timeline
BASA (NES’s Essential Academic Skills Subtest I, II and III OR ETS Praxis Core Series)
- EDC 700 - Passing scores (or an approved exemption) are required prior to registration
- EDC 800 - Passing scores are required by the completion of the course and to continue into clinical courses
IMPORTANT! When registering, be sure to indicate UNH College of Professional Studies (Code RA3640) and NH NHED (Code R7660) as Designated Score Recipients.
Alternatively, UNH CPS teacher candidates can meet the BASA requirement by submitting the following documentation:
- A copy of the student’s current NH teaching license, or:
- Notification that NH NHED has accepted student’s alternative testing scores to meet the BASA requirement.
Candidates seeking a comparable assessment that meets testing requirements will need to create/register through the NH Bureau of Credentialing Website and submit a test evaluation request through their account.
NOTE: A master’s degree will not waive any testing requirements.
The Praxis Core Math Subtest 5733 covers 3 major content areas:
- Number and Quantity
