When you’re ready to finish your degree, one of the first things you’ll want to know is how you can apply your prior college experience, professional credentials, and military training to your degree program.

When it comes to accepting transfer credit, not all colleges are created equally. Some colleges may make you retake a course, even if you successfully completed it at another institution.

At the UNH College of Professional Studies, we’re proud to be transfer friendly, offering top-ranked online programs for working adults. Our undergraduate students can transfer up to 90 credits toward their degrees. In fact, 89% of our students arrive with some transfer credit.

Let’s take a look at how some of our students benefitted from maximizing their transfer credit.

Community College Credit

Many students transfer into one of our bachelor’s degree programs after earning an associate degree at a community college. We’re proud to offer a partnership with the Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH), providing a credit-efficient transfer pathway and a tuition discount.

Jessica transferred to UNH CPS after earning her associate degree at Nashua Community College.

"When I first sat down with my advisor, she mapped out the required courses that I’d need to take and helped show me how my credits transfer in. It was a solid plan and I felt very comfortable about getting my degree and building my career path."

Credit From Other Four-Year Colleges

If you’re like many UNH CPS students, you may have credit from other four-year colleges.

Take Madison for example, who transferred here because it was a more affordable option that met her needs as a working adult.

"I had gone into a lot of debt attending a private four-year college. I realized I was spending too much money on my bachelor’s if I wanted to pursue my master’s."

Credit for Military Experience

As a Military Friendly® college, we’re honored to support our military students. Whether you’re a servicemember or a veteran, our military-focused advisors are experts at assessing potential transfer credit and guiding you through using your military benefits.

Sabrina, a veteran of the Air National Guard, maximized her transfer credit to finish her B.S. in Human Resources Management.

"[My advisor] Bette was well informed about CCAF transfer credit, military benefits, and the overall transfer credit process. She made it so easy and painless. And she was always just so willing to talk with me."

Sabrina was able to earn her bachelor’s degree quickly, taking advantage of the College’s condensed 6-week courses. She even went on to earn her M.S. in Health Care Management at the college while utilizing her military benefits.

Credit for Professional Training

Many students also receive transfer credit for experience earned outside the traditional classroom. We may assess credit for validated training programs, equivalency testing, experiential learning portfolios, and more.

Sean, a sergeant for the New Hampshire State Police, decided to finish his bachelor’s degree, earning a B.S. in Public Administration. Given our long history of supporting first responders, Sean talked with his advisor and learned he could transfer his associate degree (60 credits) as well as experience in the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council (15 credits) toward his 120 credit bachelor’s program.

"Between my prior college credits and NHPST, I had more than enough credits in transfer. That helped me maximize my time."
